Loess cave, a very special dwellings type in loess plateau, is the product under special conditions just as plateau geology, topography, climate, history and culture. As far, it is also the largest underground engineering group in the world.However, geological disasters often happen in the loess cave and cave collapse is a very common phenomenon. It is a serious threat to the residents' daily life and it also restricted the local economic development. Therefore, the research on the formation mechanism of loess cave disasters is meaningful in the theoretical level and it is good for the social and economic benefits as well. This paper, taking use of on-the-spot investigation and numerical simulation technology means, carried out a in-depth research on loess cave disasters types, the influence factors and the loess joints distribution characteristics. Afterwards, it put forward several caves disaster prevention measures. The main ideas of this paper is just as follows:(1) Under the discussion about the loess distribution and strata structure of the researched area, this paper foouses on the characteristics of loess joints growth and the physical and mechanical properties of loess. It becomes the foundation of the analysis about cave deformation and destruction mechanism.(2) According to the previous studys, this paper summarizes the distributed condition, historical situation, development status, mining status, types and tectonic conditions of loess cave in China. By means of the on-the-spot investigation, it finds out the types of loess cave disasters and trys to analyze the causes of loess cave disasters.(3) Taking use of numerical simulation technology, this paper analyzes the loess cave displacement, stress and strain characteristic under different joints space distribution conditions and different loess stratum ponditions. Afterwards, it summarizes the degeneration damage mechanics mechanism of loess cave.(4) This paper gives several suggestions on cave disaster prevention and cave building improvement and it provides an important basis for loess cave disaster prevention.
