As the accelerated process of urbanization, long-distance travel is getting growth. In order to have comfortable and fast travel time, urban expressways came into being. However, owning to the rapid growth of traffic demand, the construction speed of urban expressways is slower than traffic growth, coupled with China's lack of holistic research of traffic flow's characteristics and control technology of urban expressways, a large number of traffic get into main lines out of order from the on-ramp, which seriously affect the natural exertion of expressways and traffic safety and traffic jam of expressways is getting worse.Although the on-ramp control have alleviated congestion situation in the main line, to a certain extent. Then the congestion problems become transferred to the intersection interfaced with the Urban Expressway on the ground. Therefore it has important practical significance to research on coordinated control Theory of Urban Expressway On-ramp and Adjacent Intersections.In this paper, traffic flow in the region of Urban Expressway and the intersection interfaced with the Urban Expressway on the ground as the research object is analyzed, based on an expressway on-ramp queue length and correlated Intersection's queue length of phase-ramp, study on coordinated control Theory of Urban Expressway On-ramp and correlated Intersections.First, the characteristics of traffic flow in main line of the expressway-entrance ramp-Adjacent intersection are analyzed. Paper summarized the traffic problems exist in that area, and have depth analysis about causes. It provides a theoretical basis for the approach of coordinated control Theory.As to the traffic control technology, it introduces the role and components of the on-ramp control system. Combined with the different on-ramp control method, three kinds of typical ramp metering algorithm, which is demand-volume control, share control, and ALINA control are analyzed. And Intersection signal control of the basic theory of timing is introduced, which lay the foundation for coordinated control.Finally, in analyzing the objectives of coordinated control between on-ramp and intersection, the framework, composition of system's module and coordinated control strategy is proposed. To aim at different traffic state, study its coordinated control methods and algorithms. And The simulation results show that, he method of coordinated control is feasible.
