Dynamic compaction machine is a special-purpose equipment used for ground consolidation, which is widely used in foundation ground handling in various projects all over the world. The hammer is raised to a certain height by the dynamic compaction machine repeatedly during operations, and then it will be released so as to give a strong impact on the foundation ground and achieve the purpose of ground consolidation. In the dynamic compaction process, the boom bears fluctuating load, it is prone to fatigue damage, so the research on life of the boom of the dynamic compaction machine at the beginning of the design stage is quite necessary.In this paper, the boom of a 400t·m crawler dynamic compaction machine is taken as the research object. The finite element model of the boom is established using ANSYS software. Fatigue strength calculation of the boom is carried out and the danger area of the boom is found out. And the fatigue life of the boom is calculated by applying the Nominal Stress Method. Fatigue life of the boom is simulated in the fatigue analysis software MSC.Fatigue. The differences between the simulation results of the software and the theoretical calculation are 11%, which prove that it is feasible to carry out fatigue life analysis of the boom of dynamic compaction machine based on MSC.Fatigue software. Meanwhile, a sensitivity analysis of the incremental loading of the boom and the analysis of the life safety factor are conducted, which can provide references to the designer for the determination of the dynamic compaction level and the selection of the hammer weight. Finally, the impact of the size of the boom chord, the location of hinge point of the anti-backward device, the rate of the lifting rope on the fatigue life of the boom of the Dynamic compaction machine are studied respectively, which provides a important reference for the structural design improvement of the boom of the Dynamic compaction machine.
