Preliminary Studies On Living Wall Model In Beijing

In order to enrich the green wall model and the plants in Beijing, the key was launched the suitable green wall model and the suitable plants in Beijing after the research on the green wall in the Expo 2010 Shanghai China.Perennial flower, woody ground covers and some wild plants were introduced from the areas with similar climate to Beijing according to the building outside walls'habitat. we began to devote the study of green wall and green wall panels. Drought resistances and hardy of 28 sedum and non-sedum plants were evaluated for living walls in Beijing which have good landscapes and high ecological benefits with low-input.It were found that plants grow better in the green wall panel than those in the green blankets, The main point of maintaining is to keep the the rooting habitat wet enogh.In the synthesis assessing, the size of 13×20cm green wall blanket is the best one in the six sizes of 11×13cm,11×15cm,11×20cm 13×15cm.13×20cm,15x20cm. In the choosing of plants, Sedum spectabile, Sedum kamtschaticum var. ellacombianum have good resistance. Sedum sexangulare, Sedum reflexum, Sedum lineare, Sedum spurium'Splendens', Sedum acre have good landscape. Some of no Sedum plants such as Allium giganteum, Aquilegia viridiflora were the best, they require little maintaining; Nepata tenuifolia, Opisthopappus taihangensis, Thymus serpyllum, Tradescantia albiflora were better, they need a little maintainance, Phyla canescens, Evonymus fortuneiEand-mazz, Lysimachia nummularia'Aurea'need more maintainance.In the study of the winter resistance and drought resistance, Phlox subulata, Allium giganteum, Dianthus plumarius, Prunella vulgaris, Duchesnea indica, Aquilegia yabeana, Nepata tenuifolia, Rudbeckia hirta L, Opisthopappus taihangensis, Iris tectorum, Thymus mongolicus, Thymus serpyllum, Iris lactea Pall. Var, Allium strictum, Tradescantiaalbiflora are in the first place. These plants can overwintering and over summering safely and they have good landscape. So these plants can be used to spread experience. Lysimachia nummularia'Aurea', Phyla canescens are not overwintering in Beijing. They need appropriate protection measures.The suggestions is that some sedum Sedum kamtschaticum var. ellacombianum, Sedum sexangulare, Sedum reflexum, Sedum sarmentosum, Sedum spurium'Splendens', Sedum acre and some non sedum plants Allium schoenoprasum, Aquilegia hybrida can be used in the green wall blankets in Beijing.
