With the development of society and economy, the consumers of electricity reliability have become increasingly demanding. The fault of power line impacts on social life, more and more important, and it is impossible to estimate economic losses. Therefore, to identify the faulty point quickly and accurately is very important to the power system for the safe and reliable operation. Accurate and reliable fault location can not only shorten the time to find fault, the fault for the early treatment to ensure the rapid restoration of electricity, effectively reducing the economic losses due to power failure. Single phase distribution network fault location has been the focus of attention and study, the subjects pointed out that a practical and effective method of distribution network fault location. Most of lines in the oilfield are radiate and small parts of them are lines with double power sources. The characteristic of the power network is multibranch, and its loads are basically motors on the oil wells. This article first analysed Cheng-feng and Third Oil Factory distribution network and proposed a distribution automation system solution about combination of the main station of distribution automation and feeder terminal unit (FTU).However, it only can identify the fault section in the manner of FTU locating method, but cannot get the exact position of the error point. This article uses fault over-current information provided by the FTU to identify the fault section quickly, and then uses the traveling wave to measure the distance of the fault section, finds out the error point precisely. Finally, ATP and MATLAB simulation proved that ranging of traveling wave method is correct and feasible.
