technological improvements were carried out for a new generation of short-range dogfight air-to-air missile. These improvements have greatly enhanced the operational performance of the new air-to-air missile, such as the bigger operational airspace, the higher mobility and Mach number and so on. At this point, the control system designed with the traditional classical control theory, has the problem that the system has a serious shortage of robustness. It is because linearization of the missile model brings the neglect of the model non-linear characteristics, coupling effect of each channel, uncertainty and unmodeled dynamics of the object characteristics.In order to solve the above problems, this paper carried out design and research of new air-to -air missile flight control law using robust control theory and methods. Through reasonable assessment and modeling, these methods can take the model non-linear characteristics, coupling effect of each channel, uncertainty and unmodeled dynamics of the object characteristics into consideration when control law is designed. The two main branches of robust control theory are H∞control theory andμ-Synthesis control theory. In order to avoid a great conservative in the control law designing, in this paper,μ-Synthesis control theory and methods were used in control law designing. The control law of pitch, yaw and roll models was designed and researched, and the results were used in three channels model of the missile. The digital simulation results show that the robust controllers of single and three channels have met the requirements of control performances, and reached good robustness. And it has implemented that a controller could control multiple work points. It not only has radically improved the robustness of flight control system, but also broke through the traditional control mode that a controller could control few work points in classic control system.In this paper, the research and design of controller reduction were carried out, taking the pitch/yaw controller as an example. The simulation results show that the controller can be significantly reduced by means of a suitable reduced-order method, while control system performance can be guaranteed. At this time, the engineering practicability can be enhanced.
