A novel doubly salient hybird excitation machine had been developed in the area of doubly salient machine, It draws the benefits of the other two doubly salient machines, and a new structure has tangential-set magnet, can offer the advantages of non additional air-gap and axial magnetic circuit, optimization easily and high efficiency of electrical excitation. These features make this new structure a potential candidate in the future industrial application.In this paper, the structural principle and no-load characteristics of this hybird excitation doubly salient generator with tangential-set magnet has been analyzed at first. Its structural characteristics and composition condition is described based on the conception of unit machine. With the finite element analysis software ANSYS, the no-load simulation research have been conducted, which are helpful to discuss the diffrential operation modes of the machine, contrastive analysis the no-load data and waveform between simulation and experiment under different generation modes.Secondly, the load characteristics of the generator have been analyzed. The MAXWELL 2D field-circuit coupled model of the experimental prototype has been build to research and discuss the influention from armature current to air-gap magnetic field. Through experiment, the waveform of inductive potential and current are presented with a resistive load, and comparison has been made to the simulation results. Then the curves of external characteristic with different generation modes, excitation current, rotation speed, and capacitive load resistance have been obtained and analyzed.Finally, a digital voltage regulator based on the floating digital signal professor TMS320VC33 and CPLD has been designed and experimental verified. After the structure and function of the hardware circuits were design and tested normally, and the software system were successfully debugged, the experiments have been done on the generation system, through which the better property of voltage regulation system can be proved under different load current and rotation speed.
