Nowadays, people spend almost 90% time in indoor environment, so that indoor air quality becomes a significant factor of people's health and safety. Recently, more and more serious problem of indoor air quality broke out, and more importantly, people's life and health were seriously affected by the outbreaks of some severe respiratory diseases. Therefore, the issue of indoor microorganisms contamination gradually draws widely and highly attentions of the world researchers, and it is important to carry out more researches about bioaerosols removal and protection by the way of air filtration. This project began with the bioaerosols removal efficiency model. The model of inertial particle filtration was analyzed. A model to predict the bioaerosols removal efficiency of fibrous filter media was established by combining the classic inertial aerosol filtration efficiency mathematical model and the airborne microorganisms'characters. Modified Gompertz model was used to analyze the microorganisms'proliferation on filter media. And the mathematical parameters in the model were transferred into biological parameters in order to reflect microbe's proliferation more clearly. Moreover, experiments were taken to exam the microorganisms'filtration efficiency of different kinds of filter media. And for the same filter media, the filtration efficiencies of bioaerosol tested in this experiment are much higher than the theoretical efficiencies of the particles with same aerodynamic diameters, which means most high efficiency filter media can have good protection of microorganisms away from indoor environment. Other experiments were carried out to simulate the microbe (Aspergillus niger) proliferation on filter media after collection. And through the process of microbe proliferation, microbial volatile organic compounds (MVOC) could be detected from very beginning. Aspergillus niger proliferation process could release MVOC, which has been proved by previous research to be harmful to people's health and productivity.Based on the microbes'biological activity, filtration could not be the final method to protect indoor environment from microbe contamination. Microbe filtration evaluation system should be modified, and more efficient method to protect indoor environment should be considered.
