This thesis introduced concrete used most comprehensive in contemporary time from no other train of thought than this.Concrete is an unnatural mixed material whose expressional properties are influenced by the content of mixture, constructional technology, latter maintenance and so on, for this reason the tectonic logic and artistic expression of concrete material are multiple and splendid. This thesis began to introduce concrete from the history of concrete development and concrete's varieties and properties in the second chapter. On the one hand it laid out the causal relationship of concrete material development and inheritance, contrast and breakthrough in the theories of applying concrete in architectures. On the other hand in order to lay a foundation for the latter detail it introduced the important property features and constructional technologies when applying concrete in architectures. Chapter 3 summarized the tectonic logic of concrete in contemporary architecture design which is inclined to the structure of construction in tradition and found the meanings of ornaments in contemporary tectonic theory. This chapter introduced the tectonic logic of concrete architecture from structure, skin and the view of multiple. The fourth chapter excavated the exercising characters of concrete material in contemporary architecture design with the clue of artistic expression. This chapter dissertated senses of material representation in space foregrounding, regional annotation, form molding and so forth which is a necessary complement for the tectonic logic of concrete material applied in architecture design. The epilogue of thesis made a prospect for the concrete developmental direction and the future trend of architecture design and esthetic.The thesis chose plenty of cases to show the impressions of concrete material and try to illuminate the tectonic logic and artistic expression across the board by exemplification, hoping it can extend our vision of architecture and arouse deeply thinking for architecture design.
