Water supply system is the important public facility for the city's construction and development, and it is also the indispensable substantial element for people, however water distribution system plays an important part of the water supply system. With the social and production development and reduction of water resource, the water industry is facing serious challenges. It is practically significant to study network leakage, control leakage rate and improve economic benefit and service effect of the water supply enterprise under present conditions. To reduce water loss in water supply networks through management of leakage and pressure is a new way in foreign countries in recent years. It can solve the knotty problem of high water loss in networks. Pressure control of the networks can avoid present excessive high pressure, thus reduce accident of pipe burst and the lost rate of pipeline leakage. An area in north part is picked as the study zone, a systematic study on pressure management in water distribution system is presented in this article.First, this article uses a small-scale distribution system to establish a hydraulic model, by using this model as a experimental subject, builds a two-operational model of optimal pressure management in this water distribution system, take getting the most minimized leakage as the objective, and hydraulic balance and pressure at nodes as the constraint condition, then uses genetic algorithm method to solve the model, to get a optimum proposal of installing and setting the pressure reduction valves. Then, by taking two water distribution systems of residence community as the research object, this article establishes hydraulic model for them, identifies the method of fitting the parameter of the formula of the relationship between water pressure and leakage. After that, we take this parameter into the hydraulic model of the systems, reduce the pressure and simulated compute, analyze the changes of the leakage when the pressure is lower. Consequently we can get the feasibility of pressure management for water distribution system of residence community. Finally, by taking the pressure management method into the water distribution system of a district in Northern China, we get an optimum proposal of installing and setting the pressure reduction valves for this district's water distribution system, and use the hydraulic model to validate the rationality of this proposal. The results show that pressure management method for water distribution system of this district obtains good results. The leakage is lower, and the pressure of the system is more balanced and reasonable, at the same time a high level of running reliability of the system is expected.
