Recently, in North America, Europe, Japan, Australia and other countries, cold-formed steel structure has been widely used instead of wood structure. Cold-formed steel composite wall is adopted as perpendicular bearing member. The wall is composed of C type steel as column, U type steel as top or bottom track and board such as OSB, gypsum board or plywood. All of these members are connected by self-tapping screws. In general, cold-formed steel structural provides the following advantages in building construction:lightness,high strength and stiffness,uniform quality,high resistance of earthquake,ease of prefabrication and mass production,formwork unneeded,fast and easy erection and installation,hard rot,no combustibility,recyclable material. This system was widely applied in low-rise dwellings. Research on whether it can also been used in multistory housing of our country is significant.Based on many references, research on axial bearing properly of composite wall has been done by test, nonlinear finite element analysis and calculation according to the code. Summarized as follow:(1) Introduced the cold-formed steel structure system and its present development.(2) Full scale test of the composite wall has been carried out to obtain its loading characters, deformation features, ultimate bearing capacity and failure model under axial load. Results indicate that this wall can been used in bottom floor of multistory housing.(3) Nonlinear finite element analysis of the specimen is taken by ANSYS10.0.During the process, geometric nonlinear and material nonlinear are taken into account. Analysis conclusions are close to the test results, which proves this mode is correct and feasible.(4) Introduced the code of cold-formed steel structure in North America and our country. Calculate the bearing capacity of the specimen with these codes. The result shows that,method in North America code is more suitable for this structure and domestic code is viable after adjusting some parameters.
