The span of large scale bridges has been increasing with the development ofbridge design theory and construction technology. The style of bridge structure is alsobecoming more and more complexity. Therefore, it is important to assess condition ofbridge. Bridge assessment has been become lifeline engineering. The safety of large bridge as the key route is of vital importantance so that thecondition of bridge should be monitored and assessed. The structural healthmonitoring and assessment of a large bridge is a hot issue that is a difficult task infield of bridge engineering, which involves different subjects. Taking Hongdao BayBridge as the background, bridge assessment system based on reliability theory andanalytic hierarchy process was deveoped.Firstly, state-of-arts of structural health motitoring and assessment iscomprehensively reviewed. Taking Hongdao Bay Bridge as the background, motitoring and assessment methods are studied.Secondly, bridge assessment system based.on the reality of the situation is set up,with the future possible application of the current assessment system being considered.Database management system was deveoped, in which the data of all the motitoringitems are processed and kept remained so that the real time evaluation and data querytechnique was realized. Finally, it was investigated how to estabilish the evaluation system on the basis ofreal time data and artificial inspection data. Taking research results at home andabroad as reference, Hongdao bay bridge assessmenting system based onreliability theory and analytic hierarchy process based on variable weights method isset up, which involves sensor technology, computer networking technology, databasetechnique and forms a comparatively system.
