With the graveness of environmental pollution and energy shortage, domestic and overseas automotive corporations, universities, research institutes launch to research on Key technology of hybrid electric bus. Fuel economy is one of important performance of hybrid electric bus and decides its commercialized value. So research on fuel economy of hybrid electric bus has great value.In this paper, based on powertrain of the SWB6116HEV, virtual test bench simulation software on fuel economy for powertrain of hybrid electric bus has been built up in Matlab/Simulink software, typical shanghai urban and suburb city cycles and bench test cycles have been developed for different characteristics of city cycle, static performance has been known through test for engine, ISG motor, traction motor. And fuel performance has been simulated based on virtual test bench and bench test cycles. In order to validate the virtual test bench and compare with simulation results, its fuel performance also is simulated and has been over-the-road test under different typical city cycles. Results verify that the driving cycles and the simulation model and virtual test bench for hybrid powertrain have been validated, What is more, Not only virtual test bench can evaluated the fuel performance of hybrid powertrain, but also simulation error of them are both not more than 10%.
