Current nuclear power instrumentation & control system has developed to the third generation—a new generation of nuclear power instrumentation & control system using all digital technology which has greatly enhanced the safety and reliability for nuclear power plant. National energy strategy requires us to actively develop key technologies in the field of nuclear power. Because of foreign technology monopoly of nuclear digital instrumentation & control system, the independent research and development of nuclear digital protection system is of great importance in improving the enterprise technology innovation.Safety-related network is an important part of nuclear power digital instrumentation & control system which guarantees functionality of the multiply channels of the protection digital system. In this note, a new generation of safety-related network, resilient packet ring network (RPR), will be introduced as a solution for power plant digital instrumentation & control system network. Specially, this note focuses on RPR network protocol model, network reliability, fault protection mechanisms, a hardware solution for this network.●illustrating the development and requirement in communication security of nuclear power digital instrumentation & control system .●introducing safety-related network based on RPR protocol which includes protocol model, frame structure and frame operation in MAC layer, spatial reuse, quick-50ms-protection and so on .●giving an solution for RPR based safety-related network and also giving an software solution for frames receiving and transmiting in MAC layer. ●Finally, giving an analysis of different types of fault-patterns and fault diagnoses, fault processors relevant.
