With the increasement of offshore structures in sea and the prosperity of maritime traffic,collision accidents between vessels and vessels, vessels and platforms are becoming morefrequent which cause huge amount of life and property loss and environmentalcontamination, especially for the leaking of the liquid cargo carried by oil carriers andchemical carriers which always lead to disasters. It is of great significance studying themethod of improving the crashworthiness of shipside structure, from perspectives of safety,environment, and economy.This article carried out experiments on the mechanical properties in tension andcompression of polyurethane material and the crashworthiness of both steel-polyurethanesandwich plate and steel plate with the impact of standard shot, From the perspective ofstructural rigidity, this article designed the corrugated-stringer type double side structure,SPS outer shell type double shell side hull structure and SPS outer shell-corrugated stringertype double shell side hull structure, and conducted the simulation analysis study on thecrashworthiness of ship’s side structure including, traditional side structure, SPS outer shelltype side structure, corrugated-stringer type side structure, SPS outer shell-corrugatedstringer type side structure basing on the finite element numerical simulation softwareLS-DYNA.The main research works of this article are as follows:(1) Carried out the experiment on the mechanical properties of polyurethane material in bothtensile and compression, and got familiar with the mechanical properties of polyurethanematerials; carried out the impact experiment on steel plate and SPS plate, following theprinciple of mass equivalence between SPS plate and steel plate samples, and compared thecrashworthiness performance of these two types of structure;(2) With the idea of adjusting the structural stiffness distribution, this article invented thecorrugated-stringer type double side structure which was also be analyzed by FEM software.The traditional stringers was substituted by the corrugated-stringers so that the structurestiffness between the inner shell and outer shell along the vertical direction against the shell plates could be reduced to enlarge the area of deformation and reduce the local shell plate’smembrane tensile ratio out of the total energy absorbed by the whole structure.(3) With the respect to the principle of mass equivalency, this article use SPS plate insteadof the traditional outer shell and simulated the impact process happened on the three typicallocations of the side structure. When the collision occurs, the energy absorbed by the outershell holds a big share of the total amount, so it is necessary to increase the energyabsorption capacity by enhance the outer shell’s stiffness and then get the crashworthinessof the side structure improved.(4) With the idea of adjusting the structural stiffness distribution, this article replaced theouter shell with SPS plate upon the corrugated-stringer type side structure, which makes theouter shell bigger stiffness and smaller weight. And the structure was also analyzed by FEMmethod. In fact, this design allows the structure stiffness moving towards the outside.
