According to the theories of gradual dam break process which existed, and make the general numerical calculation combined with the Fluent software,establishes a suitable mathematical calculation method for thick tailings dam overtopping gradual dam break and breach erosion.And the method used for the tailings dam break calculations, the result shows that it is similar with previous description and tests characterization.The major work and results achieved are as follows:1. Analysis of the general attributes performed by overflow tailings which formed on dry surface and sand tailings which used for building tailing dam,combined with sediment properties and characteristics of movement in the flow water,summed up the tailings discharge characteristics of flow process,make it is the foundation of tailings discharge process and the subsequent simulation.2. Through making use of the water flow and erosion law of sluice,establishes theories rely on tailings scour,summarize the tailings dam break flow characteristics and tailings bed variation,and and gives the calculation method of tailings bed elevation changes variation.3. Discussed the possibility of forming high sediment flow about tailings dam local instantaneous break,also point out that the calculation method of high sediment laden water of headward erosion can be used for the local instantaneous dam break.4. It is based on the summary of previous description about tailings dam gradually break, considering the tailings flow characteristics, muddy water characteristics of the dam break and change regulation of tailings surface erosion.build the theory model and numerical simulation method of tailings dam break process,and apply it to the calculation which to the longdu tailings pond for the middle line method of prototype,the result shows downcutting depth is35.8m, the transverse width increased18.1m during the660s,the discharge of tailings is2472m3,proves the method can be calculated.5. According to the tailings discharge an discharge time,using3D dynamic mesh and UDF in fluent,in certain proportion to construct tailings discharge simulation which crevasse gradual change,realizing the simulation of tailings dam gradual break process.6. A geometric model is built according to the terrain of Longdu tailings pond, using the3D Fluent to simulate flow of tailings in360s in river which all burst instantaneous,and analyze the subsequent flow.
