Wheel motor drive is a distributed drive, which integrates power, transmission and brakes into the hub. This drive has outstanding advantages of the control performance of high transmission efficiency, less energy loss, the vehicle driving and so on. Therefore, the wheel hub motor adapted in electric vehicle motors has become a research hotspot. Combined with current development of electric vehicles, analysis and comparison of the advantages and disadvantages of various types of motors, the number of slots in recent pole three-phase permanent magnet brushless DC hub motor is selected as the drive motor for electric vehicles in this paper. In order to apply electric motor car better, the efficiency of the motor at rated load is optimized which is to complete the permanent magnet brushless DC motor modeling, analysis, calculation and optimization of field work in this paper, and the issue of the proximal pole permanent magnet slots brushless DC motor addendum magnetic leakage is studied deeply. By the analysis of the characteristics and methods of the magnetic flux leakage and an approach of the same groove and different crown silicon mixed pressure is proposed, the method for motor performance optimization to reduce the height of the top of the crown of a tooth can be achieved. It is provided a realization of the tooth crown height reduction method. Near pole motor as a special kind of fractional slot with magnetic flux leakage coefficient characteristics, there is a big error in the traditional method to calculate the magnetic circuit. Under the condition to meet the mechanical requirement, based on finite element analysis theory, the application of Ansoft software analysis is proved to broaden the scope of the mechanical condition and reduce the leakage coefficient of the motor to some extent in this method.
