Engineered Material Arresting System (EMAS) is a new type of aircraft runway blocking system, which can effectively prevent the aircraft from overrunning the end of the runway. Based on the research status and application of EMAS at home and abroad, the performance and application of EMAS are further studied in this paper. The core layer of EMAS plays a major role in the process of arresting aircrafts. Its main ingredient is foam concrete which contains a lot of closed space. Therefore, it shows good physical and mechanical properties and can be used to effectively absorb the aircraft’s impact energy. In this paper, the microstructure of the EMAS core layer is observed and analyzed, and the inner of it is the closed air bubbles, so it has good energy absorption performance. In order to analyze the performance of the EMAS core layer, a series of compressive properties tests are carried out. There are three stages of the EMAS core layer material in the compression test, the performance of different stages can be reflected in the compression performance curves. During the process of multiple tests, it was found that the damage of the EMAS core layer is not an ideal collapse mode, which is accompanied by the crush mode. So the mechanical properties tests of two kinds of the EMAS core layer materials are carried out in this paper to study the Energy absorption properties in different conditions. On the basis of the above experimental researches, the interaction between the aircraft and the EMAS core layer is analyzed in this paper to establishe the force model and simulate the force of the wheel. Then the whole aircraft is analyzed, and the dynamic model is built along with the dynamic equation of the plane. According to the compression performance of the material, the mechanical force and the dynamic equation of the plane, the stopping distance calculation system based on VB.NET is written. A case study for the F-6 and F-8 is carried out afterwards, and the sensitivity of the system is analyzed.
