Monitor of flow plays an important role in the different operation of industrial production, the insertion electromagnetic flow sensor is developed on the basis of electromagnetic flow sensor, its structure characteristics makes it has the advantages of low price, small weight, easy disassembly and repair as well as good versatility.The insertion electromagnetic flow sensor is based on the Faraday’s law of electromagnetic induction, fluid inside the pipeline after insertion electromagnetic flow sensor cuts a magnetic induction line, resulting in induction electromotive force. Therefore, the distribution of the flow field plays an important impact on the measurement result.FLUENT software is used to study the physical model of the insertion electromagnetic flow sensor, and the numerical simulation is employed to analyze the relevant effects of the flow field change upon the sensor, observing the boundary layer and the high speed flow field formed by the sensor, analyzing the influence of the flow field around the sensor on the impact of the electrodes and optimizing the mode of sensor. By the way, electrodes are putted on the side of the sensor.In this paper a water drop type of insertion electromagnetic flow sensor is designed and made, and the corresponding experimental pipeline system is designed and realized. Based on this, the flow velocity measurement of the circular sensor and the water drop sensor is carried out, and the experimental data are analyzed and compared. The experimental data shows the relationship between the signal size and the flow rate of two kinds of sensor electrodes, which shows that the signal intensity measured by the water drop sensor is stronger and the stability is better.
