At present, the trend of traffic signal control problem research is from "point control", "line control" to "surface control", that is to say, from single intersection control, arterial coordinated control to area coordinated control. Therefore, area coordinated control has became the hottest topics in the study of traffic signal control. Aim at the problem of China urban area traffic signal timing coordination control, this paper emphatically studies a urban area traffic adaptive signal timing coordination control method, which conform to China’s transportation state. Mainly includes the following three aspects:the dynamic sub area partition model and algorithm of area traffic adaptive coordination control, the signal timing parameters optimization model and algorithm of traffic control sub-area, the example analysis of Tianjin binhai tourist area. Specific content as follows:Firstly, for the dynamic sub area partition model and algorithm of area traffic adaptive coordination control, this paper set up a mathematical model of the number of released vehicles and the vehicles through the intersection, and according to the correlation benefit maximization, namely, the maximum dissipation rate of vehicles under the per unit of green-time-rate, the division objective function of control sub-area is established. Moreover, according to signal period, traffic flow and queue ratio, the principles of the link between the adjacent intersections are determined. And based on the relevance principles between the adjacent intersections, a constraints model of control sub-area dynamic dividing is set up. Besides, according to the traffic status, select the intersections, which possess local extreme value of road network signal control target index, as the key intersections, and the correspondingly algorithm and process are designed.Secondly, for the signal timing parameters optimization model and algorithm of traffic control sub-area, through determining the average delay time formula of m main line, signal timing optimization model is established, which using total delay time minimum of control sub-area as the objective function. What is more, based on the analyzing of phase difference optimization and signal timing mechanism between adjacent intersections, the calculation method of adjacent phase difference and signal timing method are achieved. Furthermore, according to the traffic state, select the intersections, which possess local extreme value of control sub-area signal control target index, as the key intersections, and the phase difference optimized sequence of control sub-area is designed.Finally, for the example analysis of Tianjin binhai tourist area, the research method of urban area traffic adaptive signal timing coordinated control is applied to Tianjin binhai tourist area to divide control sub-areas and optimize the signal timing of control sub-areas. Moreover, Tianjin binhai tourist area VISSIM simulation model is established, and the VISSIM simulation results show that coordinated control scheme one and scheme two are significantly reduced on the six indicators, including total delay, average delay, total parking number, average parking number, total travel time, average travel time. It indicated that the urban area traffic adaptive signal timing coordinated control method is effective.
