In the paper, it is described the disadvantages of the traditional Current Transformer(CT) on high voltage power line, and the basic theory and system of the optical fiber Current Transformer is introduced. Taking advantages of the current optics and electronics, a novel set of the light driving hybrid high-voltage fiber optic current sensor is designed and tested successfully and the result of the experiment and errors are analyzed. This design consists of there parts. The first one is a transformer and integrator with output voltage being proportional to the current flowing in the power line. The second one is a V/F converter changing the voltage signal into the optic pulse FM signal. This optic pulse is transmitted to the low voltage area through optical fiber and finally is detected by signal processing unit. The third part is an power supply, which is actualized by light driving. Such a system merges the attested reliability of conventional transformer technology with the acknowledged benefities of optical fiber transmission, and it is good for real time industrial applications.
