The weather in north China is very cold. More and more buildings and piping are constructed in city. At specific times, such as piping exposed to the elements; industrial fluid system need to be kept at a constant temperature; gutters, downspouts, and other rain andling piping; circulating water pipes on external cooling towers; on emand hot water for bathing or other purposes, etc, heat tracing is the practical method. Electric heat tracing is the supplemental heating of liquid system piping through electricity. SJHUI platform is a part of Beijing subway. Many exterior piping are used in this construction. The platform is so large that electric heat tracing is the only way to prevent the piping from freezing. But most of the HVAC designer in China is not familiar with electric heat tracing and there is no precedent in the world. In this paper, the theory of piping freeze roof is studied and examined, and the practical parameter of electric heat tracing is presented. In addition, the practical method in the engineering of electric heat tracing is given. To avoid freeze in case of power cut accident, we designed a intelligent monitor to examine the temperature of piping.
