There are two topics discussed in this thesis: power flow computation and reconfiguration of the power distribution net works.Two schemes are processed in power flow computation. The first is forward-backward combined with compensation current. Forward-backward method is usually used in radial distribution networks. In weakly meshed distribution networks compensation current method is used. It open the loops on some nodes, on the open points compensation currents are used to simulate the power flow before opening. The second is circuit solution. In every load node, load is processed as an equivalent grounding resistant, thus formulating a simple circuit. A refined genetic algorithm combined with the idea of tabu search used in distribution networks reconfiguration to reduce loss is presented in this thesis. To reduce the computation time, which is often too long in conventional genetic algorithm, the idea of tabu search is employed. It can avoid the appearance of the near-optimal solutions which have appeared lately.
