With the quick development of the modem scientific technology , there are more and more water power station equipped with large capacity turbines. Many large capacity turbine runners in commercial running have come to cracks or vibration problems with different extent in China. Therefore, to ensure the large Francis turbines running safely and stably is an important issue on design and type selection research. This paper elaborates the parameters selection of the 700MW turbine for Laxiwa power station located upstream Yellow River, which is coming into construction soon. Through statistical calculation of specific speed for turbines with large capacity ,high operating head in domestic and oversea power station, utilizing turbine homologous theory .adopting regression statistic calculation method, it has got specific speed statistic equation., the demonstration of primary parameters selection, and the primary target parameters suitable for Laxiwa power station .The turbine primary parameters given in this paper .incorporates the operation experience and model test of large turbine in domestic and oversea power station built and being built, by means of the CFD hydraulic calculation at Herbin E & M Limited Corporation and DongFang E & M Limited Corporation, which gets a conclusion as the same as the monographic study in this paper, gives demonstration of the prior generating operation feasibility and early stage operating head.Through the study on the large Francis turbine parameters selection ,it gives a definite instruction in runner parameters alternative selection with the same head, and also practices an important role for Laxiwa turbine calling for bid.
