Physical modeling and fundamental theory of hydrodynamic behavior of compound channel with vegetated floodplains are studied in this paper.Hydrodynamic behavior of compound channel with vegetated floodplains is concluded and several formulas are deduced,which can computer discharge distribution and length of flow in floodplain coming into the main channel respectively.Based on achievement of flow with partly vegetated channel of predecessors, according to characteristics of vegetation's distribution and the interaction between vegetation and flow, flow is classified into three types:vegetated flood plains;one or two vegetated banks and completely vegetated bed.Physical model is also concisely introduced.Formula of discharge distribution deduced by momentum conservation law and formula of length of flow in floodplain coming into the main channel deduced from wake theory are all testified by experiment results,which indicates that those have sufficient precision for actual application.
