This paper deduced the new thermodynamic check calculating method of multi-stage reciprocating compressor by analysis the basic thermodynamic process when they are operating under the variable conditions. This new method not only includes many factors that were ignored in the past, but also uses Newton-Raphson method to optimize the old method and programs this new method with C program language. It can be proved by the experiments that this new method has more accurate result and need less calculating times. It provides theoretical foundation for the economic, safe and reliable operating of reciprocating compressors.The research uses 4M12-5 9/30 oxygen reciprocating compressors of oxygen factory in panzhihua, which belong to horizontal opposed reciprocating compressor. These compressors compress oxygen, which is produced in the air-separating tower, and convey it to the smelting factory. Because the oxygen pressure in air-separating tower and the final discharge pressure of compressors frequently change, the oxygen compressors have always been working under the variable operating conditions. On the condition of safe operating and through the experiments on the influence of intake pressure, discharge pressure, intake temperature, clearance volume and inter-cooling on the discharge volume and power of the oxygen compressors, some useful conclusions which can guide the oxygen compressors' economic operating are drew.Although the experiments were done on the 4M12 oxygen compressors, the conclusions can apply to the other reciprocating compressors, and they have an important sense to energy saving of reciprocating compressors' industrial operating.
