This thesis studies a 2D size measurement system of large transformers' silicon-steel sheets. In the system, an aiming camera is installed on two guide tracks, so it can be moved to aim the different edge of the object. While the camera is moving, the magnetic grid sensors on the sides of the leading tracks will detect the distance between two edges. Calculating these distance data, we can get the dimension and angle data, which are results needed. The video of object is captured by the camera and showed on the screen of a computer in the real time. Operators can aim the edges by a transparent aiming coordinate system on the screen, which has been draw by programming. To develop the system to an automatic system, we have studied how to improve measurement precise by image processing after fast aiming. We use Median Filter to filtrate noise, use Sobel Arithmetic to detect the edge, and use Kitchen-Rosenfeld Method to detect corners. Then we use the data of corner position to adjust the first data we get by the fast aiming. Using this method, we can improve the aiming speed and make the operators less tired. The measurement system could solve the dimension measurementproblems in the transformer factories, and it can be applied to wider fields.
