At present,there are no test method and rig typically for evaluating worm gear oil in the world. Especially the work for evaluating the scuffing load capacity of worm gear oil is just been carrying out abroad but not at home. So there is no traverse index of the evaluation rig in the product standard of worm gear oil in the world,which restricts badly the development and the application of worm gear oil.Based on the tribology theory,the experiment method of the scuffing load capacity of worm gear oil was studied in this paper by means of the large number of groping evaluation experiments,and based on the test results of worm gear drive lubricated by 15 types oils and the surface analysis of worm gear after the experiments,the effect of oils and additives on anti-scuffing load capacity of worm gear pair was studied.The results show that the experimental method of the scuffing load capacity of worm gear oil has a good repeatability and distinguishability. The method can meet fully the need of the evaluation of the scuffing load capacity to all kinds of worm gear oil. The different kind of additives and varied contents of additive have obvious influence on the scuffing load capacity of worm gear oil. For mixing worm gear oil,the additives that suitable for worm gear oil should be made of anti-wear additive which is the mainly component and a little extreme pressure additive which has a gentle performance.It can be predicated that the study results are useful to the design of worm gear transmission and the development of new-type lubricants.
