This study is aimed to investigate the solutions for the modeling of optimal design of urban water supply networks using annealing and genetic algorithm based on the description of development of both the urban water supply optimal design method and modern optimization computation method. It carries out hydraulic computation and analysis of water supply networks and constructs the computation programs for the optimal designing of urban water supply networks using annealing and genetic algorithm. Some improvements have also been achieved in the algorithm suitable for network optimal design. The case study shows that good economic benefits can be reached by the usage of annealing and genetic algorithm in the optimal design of urban water supply network. This paper also discusses some questions about the optimization of multiple status,network extending,pumping station for enhancing pressure in the network,and the reliability of water supply networks.
