The discretization, grid refinement and numerical simulation of two-dimensional computation domain of wind load on buildings are dealt with in this thesis. The computation domain is a rectangular area with its length along the along-wind direction. A finite volume scheme is proposed during the process of domain discretization and numerical simulation. In this scheme, the computational domain is first divided into two sub-domains,inner domain near the building's surface and outer domain far away from the building. In order to deal with different kinds of building shapes,body-fitted quadrilateral grids are arranged in the inner domain and rectangle girds in the outer domain. The grid auto-generation of the inner and outer domains is carried out by generating a small number of quadrilateral super elements and each super element then further discretized into smaller elements. Based on the computational results for the initial grid division, the adaptive grid refinement is introduced until meeting the required accuracy. The computer program is established for implementing the aims described above. Using the program the wind fields around several buildings with different body shapes are analyzed. The final results of grid division and refinement are presented. The final wind velocities around the building and wind pressures on the building surface are obtained and also compared with those from the wind runnel test. It is indicated that the grids generated by the proposed method are simple, high quality and suitable for different building shapes, and the results of numerical simulation agree well those of the wind tunnel test.
