The roar developments of the modern industry not only give people many material benefits but also bring a series of social difficulties, such as environmental pollution and energy crisis that are taken into great consideration by all over the world people. Automobiles consume about half of the petrol of the world and at the same time they have been polluting our atmosphere seriously. At present, for auto engineers, the most important job is to design and develop more clean substitute fuel engines. We will solve the problems of environmental pollution and energy crisis strategically by using these engines.Under this background, a kind of combustion and emission model of SI95 diesel engine modified to a spark ignition engine fueled with various components coal bed methane have been studied deeply and thoroughly in the thesis. A quasi-dimensional two-zone combustion model of varying steps has been developed by using MATLAB language. Based on the combustion model, the three main emissions of NOx, CO and HC have been also simulated and the differences between calculated results and experimental values have been analyzed. At the same time the effects of various components of coal bed methane on the engine's combustion process and its emissions are also analyzed. The engine's transient pressure, temperature and its various components emissions are traced in details during the calculation. The results verified that the various steps quasi-dimensional two-zone combustion model developed in this thesis can describe the real working procedure of the internal combustion engine very well. The emission results of the three main emissions- NOx, CO and HC--are compatible with the experimental values very well, which verified that three emission models developed in this thesis are reasonable. The study results show that using various components coal bed methane in spark ignition engine is feasible and an increase of the methane concentration in coal bed methane contributes to increasing the engine's performances and decreasing its total emissions.
