The investigation of VSR(vibratory stress relief) were started in 1960s because of energy sources crisis. The technology of VSR has some characteristics as follow. First, mechanical performance is improved obviously. Second, applicability is more abroad. Third, VSR technology saves time, energy and funds. The technology is introduced to our country in 1976. However, up to the present this technology isn't used widely.In the beginning, the mechanism of VSR is analyzed in this paper. The essential method of relieving residual stress is introduced on the basis of analyzing the mechanism of residual stress producing and relieving. From the view of stress-strain principle of the metal and micro-mechanics, the mechanism of VSR is analyzed and the process of stress relieving and even distribution. The expression of VSR's demand of micro-mechanics is given also. According the pertinent materials, the criterion of VSR is proved.On the basis of mechanism analyzing of VSR, a set of Vibration Stress Relief Based on PC is developed. The technology of AC adjustable-speed with frequency conversion is applied. The scheme of the whole system is introduced in the paper. And the advantages of the set compared with those in existence are analyzed. The diagrams of software are also shown. Finally, the experimental result shows the effectiveness of the set.A series of experiments on the welded specimens were carried out. The measurement techniques of stress test by ultrasonic surface wave are introduced and the internal remanent stress of welded specimens is measured quantificationally, before and after vibration. Based on observation of the dislocation density variation before and after vibration, we analyze the test process and results systematically and then make a responding conclusion.In the end, systematical summary is given, and some problems under to study in future are put forward.
