Research On Distance Relay In The Presence Of STATCOM

FACTS is the application of power electronic equipment with one or more functions to regulate and control the electrical parameters that govern the operation of transmission systems including voltage, current, impedance, phase angle and the damping of oscillations. The presence of FACTS significantly affects the operation of distance relays in the power system. This paper presents FACTS concept and its modeling technology. Based on the analysis of dynamic behavior of FACTS controller such as STATCOM in balanced and unbalanced system, the performance of a distance relay has been evaluated and some adaptive schemes have been proposed.
