| Confucian Temple is a special architecture in which the Chinese feudal dynasties worshipped Confucius, the founder of Confucianism, and delivered Confucianism theories. Confucian Temple is a perfect reflection of ancient Chinese city architecture. It could only be built above the county level, the higher rank of the city, the larger scale the Confucian Temple. The Confucian Temple has a very close bond with ancient Chinese education. There were also state-run and private-run education agencies in ancient China, accordingly various plane layouts of Confucian Temple resulting in diverse yard space patterns. Most of the existing Confucian Temples in China are of the local ones in Ming or Qing dynasty.Confucian temple in Hancheng is the major protected unit of historical relics at national level. After many repairs in Ming or Qing dynasty, the existing Hancheng Confucian Temple was first established in 1371(A.D.), on the basis of the structure built between 1224-1231. The temple lies in east of Hancheng city, symmetrically planed. Hancheng Confucian Temple is the most completely preserved, the largest Confucian temple in shaanxi province, enjoying tremendous value in terms of history, art and science.Under the background of Confucianism, This thesis has summed up the features of Hancheng Confucian Temple in aspects of architecture, environment and location, history development after a detailed exploration to the temple. |
