Supported by National Natural Science Foundation of China under grant No. 50077006 and based on the transmission line theory, the coupling problem from external electromagnetic field to shielded cables are researched by dividing this complex coupling problem into two simple transmission line systems, the outer transmission line is composed of the shield of the cable and the ground and the inner transmission line is composed of the shield and the core wire of the cable. The two systems are connected by transfer impedance and transfer admittance of this cable. By using this method, we compute the shield and core wire response of a shielded cable under the influence of external transient electromagnetic field. In addition, a transfer impedance measurement method which is suitable for shielded cables of power system is proposed. It is simple, accurate and very easy to perform.
