Micro superconducting magnetic energy storage (SMES) system was studied for application into power system controls, such as power line stabilization and compensation of power fluctuation. This paper mainly describes the multi-objective optimization of 1MJ SMES solenoid magnet.This paper discussed the basic theories of SMES magnet, Sequential Quadratic Programming (SQP) strategy and its MATLAB realization, then optimized some magnet configurations in various objectives using completed optimal program, and gained some conclusions by comparing the optimal results.Analyzing of the fringe field of single magnet revealed the importance of magnetic shield, some magnet configurations were proposed to reduce the fringe field outside magnet. And as for the concentric and axially-displaced magnet, the conditions having their magnetic polar distance equal to zero were educed. Combining the characteristic of MATLAB, this paper proposed magnetic flux method to compute the inductance and mutual inductance of SMES magnet.1MJ magnets were optimized with optimization programme, and some conclusions were presented by comparing the optimal results.
