In recent years, the construction of cable-stayed bridges has been experiencing a rapid development. Within the past 3D years, there have been nearly 100 cable-stayed bridges completed or under construction in China. However, the anti-erosion of the cables is still a worldwide difficult point, and it will continue to be a problem for a long time. Consequently, research on the replacement of cables becomes somewhat significant. Based on the replacement of cables of the Guangdong Jiujiang Major Bridge, some research on this problem was performed. This thesis includes several parts as follows: First, a brief review of the development of the cable-stayed bridges was made. Then, the process of cable replacement of the bridges was introduced. Next, after a detailed theoretical analysis, a proper method of adjusting cable-force, which was not only time- and labor-saving, but also accurate enough, was determined. Finally, in the last part of the thesis, the author also puts forward some suggestions on the long-term monitoring of the bridge. The replacement of the cables of the Guangdong Jiujiang Major Bridge was carried out under a circumstance of no traffic interruption, setting a record in our country, and the idea of partial adjustment of cables also proved successful, both of which may provide some valuable experience for the repair of similar bridges.
