Compared to the conventional vehicle, Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) has a lot of kinds and combination ways of power sources in the drivetrain. According to the driving conditions, HEV determines the ideal combined way of the vehicle's engine and motor, ensures that the engine (main power input )work in the high fuel economy area and that the vehicle has high fuel economy ,low emission and good driving performance. The key technology is how to make engine, battery and motor work harmoniously. The Real-Time Control Strategy (RTCS) presented here determines the ideal operating point of the vehicle's engine and motor by Genetic Algorithms (GA). The approach implicitly incorporates the effects of many factors which include the vehicle's fuel economy, vehicle's emission, SOC of battery, regenerative energy, temperature of engine, operating history of the vehicle and so on. Weighting for fuel economy and four emission performance determine an overall impact function, the user can adjust the target of the strategy by adjusting their weightings. In addition, the author studies a new way of weighting subjectively and discusses the three driving modes: fuel economy mode, emission mode and natural operation mode. The EQ7200HEV based on Bluebird car is investigated, according to the performance data of the vehicle's components, the performance of HEV is analyzed, the problem of the components assemble and the way of improvement is pointed out. Finally the way of weighting to evaluate the performance of different HEV is carried out.
