Geomembranes are becoming the most commonly material in the filed of seepage control in our country. At the same time, many technical problems need solving urgently. For example, the category of the geomembranes is numerous and there are still a lot of shortage how to select geomembranes in request to exert its physics mechanics characteristic well. The research is still a new lesson of the geomembranes, there are a lot worry because geomembranes' physical and chemic characteristic can't still be completely affirmed in engineering field. The research results of geomembranes' function are few. Especially, the work of calculating leakage due to defects in geomembranes just has started since the middle of 1980's. All about affect the popularization and application of geomembranes.Combining theory with experiment together, the engineering example that composite geomembranes are used to act as anti- seepage material are enumerated in the paper.1 Introducing the species and characteristics of the geomembranes and introducing the geomembranes' application in hydraulic engineerings.2 The methods how to select geomembrane are summarized. Through the experiment, a few composite geomembranes physical characteristic and pull and stretch characteristics are conformed. The process that composite geomembrane is selected by finite element method is introduced in detail.3 A few experiments of interaction of composite and supporting layer material are introduced. A instrument is designed by oneself to test the frictional behaviour of composite geomembranes and supporting layer material. Through analyzing the test, the frictional regulation of composite geomembranes and supporting layer material are acquired. The study will offer the reference basis for the design of geomembranes.4 Enumerating the circumstance of permeameter tests about geomembranes at home and abroad and summarizing the rule of it by comparing the acquired data.5 A seepage instrument is designed to test the leakage of the defected composite geomembranes. Through the test, a few data of leakage due to defects in composite geomembranes under different aperture of damnification, different water pressure and two kinds of supporting layer material are gained and the primary factor that influences the magnitude of leakage due to defects in composite geomembranes are analysed.6 Handling the testing data with mathematical method and establishing mathematical experiential models. In this paper a few methods calculating leakagedue to defects in composite geomembranes are adopted for every kind of engineering circumstance in order to verify the observation data. The regulation of leakage due to defects in geomembranes is derived for the concrete engineering model.7 Enumerating the engineering example that composite geomembranes are used to act as anti- seepage material and using mathematics experience model that are established in the paper to compute leakage of the defected geomembranes.8 Summarizing textual work in brief and putting an outlook on the research of the composite geomembranes.
