Soft soil improvement is the common problem which usually arises in theroad construction project. The function and economic effect of roadconstruction invest are always discounted by the unsuccessful soft soilimprovement engineering. Hence with respect to the road construction underthe specified geological conditions, the rational choice of the soft soilimprovement technology and corresponding techniques is very important anddecisive. The paper has systematically summarized and introduced the state-of-art,design theory of the present soft soil improvement technology especially thedeep mixing method, profoundly discussed the application premises andimplemental technological procedures. Finally with the special regard to theperipheral road construction project of Guangzhou International ExhibitionCenter the paper is focused on the application study of the deep mixingmethod which is practiced in this engineering including many sets of load padtests, the load capacity and foundation deformation are computed finally. Many practical experiences are drawn from this project and some opinions arereferential to the other similar engineering projects.
