The paper is mainly study the earthquake disaster of buildings and gets the earthquake disaster result of buildings in city by a special program for MSP method. The paper also using the technology of geographical information system to show the visible predicted distribution of the urban buildings' earthquake disaster.The authors introduced the backgrounds and the necessary of the investigation especially its importance in the field of quakeproof investigation and earthquake disaster reduction. To make readers understand the way completely, the whole approach to work out the vulnerability of buildings is introduced. The approach to work out the vulnerability of buildings' structure is the most important part of the way. Based on the MSP (multi-step simplified push-over)method, an alternative approach to calculate the vulnerability index of single and group buildings is analyzed in this paper .The authors point out that, according to this approach, the whole earthquake-resistance ability of urban buildings can be evaluated and the various buildings' mean earthquake-resistance ability can be compared when the mean vulnerable index is worked out. This study is expected to shed new light on the evaluation of the earthquake disaster concerned with the urban buildings, for it meets the demand of the new standard in the analysis of earthquake-resistance ability of buildings, i.e. the earthquake is portrayed by seismic coefficient instead of the seismic intensity.A visual model is set up by using GIS technology combined with the method of working out the earthquake vulnerability index curve. Based on the spatial distributed database of buildings, the visible result of predicted single and group buildings' earthquake disasters is shown. An example is given which comes from Putian city, Fujian province. In the example, utilizing the program that used to predicting single and group buildings, the visible predicted urban buildings' earthquake disaster comes to be realized on the GIS.
