This paper summarizes the present situation and developing process of structural monitoring and damage detection precisely. Then the damage states simulation methods is discussed in the process of feasibility verifying from three aspects-numerical calculation, model experiment and actual object test, in which damage states simulation technology, such as stiffness-discount, area-cutting, laceration, vent, cracks, and damage equivalence. At the same time, simple evaluation is given to the present methods of damage states simulation and points out that this kind of damage states appears as a abrupt result, which doesn' t come up to the fact for the actual damage states have to experience a course of damage accumulation, so it breaks the continuance of feasibility verifying and makes only two points, namely pre-damage and step-damage, is checked.The recently developing shape memory polymer (SMP) is a kind of smart polymer material memorizing its former shape, having the characters of plastics and rubbers and its obvious advantage is the lowing of the elastic modulus with the temperature increase, which is named as shape memory effect (SME) . The paper discusses the memory mechanism of SMP, and puts forwards a newly thinking to use its shape memory effect to make the stiffness-control table model member according to the deficiency of stimulating the damage process of formation and accumulationo Therefore mechanical test is carried out to study the relationship between stiffness of SMP andtemperature, stiffness-controllable model member is made and used in the verifying test of damage states simulation under the condition of heated wind to control its temperature so as to change its stiffness. The result shows it is simple and has the practical application value.
