Based on the current research progress and developing trend of modified asphalt in China and abroad, this paper firstly takes the nano-material (nano-CaCOs) as a modified material to improve performance of asphalt. By means of analyzing the performance of the pavement and mechanism of the nano-CaCOs modified asphalt, the study results of the paper lay a foundation for research, development and application of nano-material modified asphalt.From the viewpoint on performance of road asphalt, the test shows possibility that nano-CaCO3 improves and enhances quality in application of basis asphalt and asphalt mixture. From the changes of the asphalt composition and structure of the fore-and-aft asphalt, the paper analyses mechanism of nano-CaCO3 modified asphalt and mutual action between nano-CaCO3 and basis asphalt. In order to research the mechanism of modification, the various research measures are carried out such as component analysis. Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy(IH-NMR). Infrared Adsorption Spectrum Analysis(IR) . Differential Scanning Calorimetry(DSC) and X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy(XPS) and so on. Through these measures we get a conclusion that Nano-CaCO3 improves temperature susceptibility at high temperature and the reason of improvement is that the specific heat of modified asphalt becomes larger than it of basis asphalt. By these measures we conclude that the mixture of nano-CaCO3 and asphalt forms a uniform and steady system, which is the precondition of application of nano-material modified asphalt in highway project.
