The soil-similar slope is one of the primary and important types of cutting slopes at present, its engineering properties are obviously different from the well-known soil slopes or rock slopes. The instability mechanism and stabilized works are foundations of theory analysis and application study on soil-similar slopes. On the basis of two major site conditions and three basic stratum structure characteristics of slopes, six typical types of engineering geological models were obtained and the relative numerical simulation models which give prominence to the effect of the discontinuous interfaces because of accumulating or different weathering were built in this paper. The typical instability mechanism of soil-similar cutting slopes was worked out by finite element method. The retaining and reinforcing works for one of typical types were put forward as a case study by combining instability mechanism with stability analyses of cutting slopes, and then the numerical analogue and stability check about the stabilized works were carried out. Some ideas as a new method of designing and calculating were presented for cutting slopes in this paper.
