With so many advantages such as high efficiency, low noise and simplestructure, free-piston stirling engine (FPSE) has become one of the importantdevelopment directions for low-power engines in recent years. As one of the keytechniques, the design of gas bearings has many special aspects worthy of beingfocused on. Based on the structural diagram and some concerning data of a kind ofFPSE, this thesis deals with a design and performance calculation of the gas bearingspart and mainly provides basic theory research of gas-lubrication, introduction ofmodeling and computation method, process of choosing the structural data, staticand dynamic performance analysis and accuracy validation of the new method.Combined with general computation program, the very popular practical finitevolume method is used in this thesis to directly solve the governing equations on thesolution domain instead of traditional methods that solve the Reynolds Equations. The results show that the gas bearings designed with this method can meet the needof design. And the design of gas bearings with different structures and applicationscan become feasible, economical and efficient with the method.
