The electric propulsion system is a very important part of the ship. With the spread of the ship electrical propulsion, it is becoming more and more important. The fault diagnosis of it is one of them. And many researches of it are under going. And the permanent-magnet motor becomes the most compose of electric propulsion by its advantage. In the fault diagnosis of the ship electric propulsion system, the experiences of the repairman are very important for the right diagnosis. But the room of the ship is limited, so it is unavailable to diagnose the ship with the multi-people. So the expert system method is used in this article. And the main tasks of the article are as follows:1. The research object, permanent-magnet electric propulsion system, and its faults are analyzed systematically, including the reasons of the faults, the evolvement relationship of the faults, the way of solvation, and so on. By the faults tree, the author gained the expression of knowledge in the base of rule.2. According to the features of the permanent-magnet electric propulsion system, frame expression and production expression are combined. The author designed and realized the inference system.3. The author used the BMI model, and altered the model in using, including the way of combination and the classification of facts.4. Designing and building an expert database system in use of this fault diagnosis system. The DAO is used in the interface of expert database system. The way is designed to control and manage the database system.5. The permanent-magnet electric propulsion system is realized under the platform of Windows, and the language Visual C++ is chosen.Finally, based on the work has been finished, some points which can perfect the system in the future research are brought forward.
