The flywheel energy storage system (FESS) is a kind of new and high efficiency ways for energy storage and conversion, which has wide usage perspective. The FESS make use of the high speed flywheel to storage kinetic energy and be converted to electric energy by the conversion device according to requirement. It is a typical mechatronic product, which has many advantages such as high efficiency, no pollution, long life, easy monitor, facilitating maintenance, charge quickly and continue work ability. The new technology can be used in wide range, such as the uninterrupted power supply, the electrical peak power tracking, the aerospace applications and so on. In order to improve the efficiency of FESS, the support method of FESS is a important technologies. The development of FESS profit from of the advance of bearing technology. Active magnetic bearings (AMB) is a new support technology. because of its no contact,no wear,no need of lubrication and dynamic adjustable, it fit the high speed revolving system like FESS. Active magnetic suspension flywheel is a researching focus at the present time in the world. According to the special demand of the FESS, the principle of the control system AMB is discussed. A digital PID control system was designed using MATLAB. A kind of DSP controller basing on TMS320LF2407A for AMB was designed and completed including the hardware system and the frame of software. At the same times, the PWM switching amplifier for the AMB was researched. The experiment has indicated that the amplifier and control system work well.
