| The Shale module pertorated brick is made from shale ingredient. It is a new type of wall material with economizing energy/land thermal insulation sound isolation. The new brick can be used in masonry building as loading or no-loading wall.This paper is based on the relative scientific project from JiangSu constructional department, studies on confined shale module pertorated brick wall ("CSB wall" for short) in large span masonry building, including basic character of press/shear loading capability and seismic behavior by experiment and propose some advices on design. It is also incorporating part of "Technical Specification for Masonry Buildings with Shale Module Pertorated Bricks".By test study on 12 CSB walls under cyclic loading reversals, this paper discusses seismic behavior, shear loading capability and failure mode of CSB wall on different pillar space or press stress. The result shows that CSB wall is better than normal clay brick wall on seismic behavior and shear loading capability, because energy dissipating ability, ductility and shear loading capability are especially improved. Compared with confined clay brick wall, equivalent viscous damping coefficients is improved by 37 percent and shear loading capability by 25 percent. On the bases of the experimental result the paper arrives at CSB wall skeleton curve and three-line restoring mode. The formulas of shear loading capability and ductility are given in the paper, and the values calculated by the formulas are in good accordance with test results.By test study on 18 CSB walls on the condition of pressing, the paper discusses pressing character, press loading capability and failure mode. With present masonry building design code, this paper analyzes working status and improving mechanism of loading capability. The result shows that the masonry part of the CSB wall is efficiently confined by bonding of pillar, horizontal concrete band and beam. Further more it is shown that confined effect and augmentation of loading capability are notable when pillar span is small, and it is the same when the ratio of height to thickness and deviating distance from axis are large. After test analysis, the paper puts forward two formulas about press loading capability. The first one can embody the improving mechanism, but it is a bit redundant. The second one is sententious, and the accuracy is good. So the second formula is used in "Technical Specification for Masonry Buildings with Shale Module Pertorated Bricks".From the test result CSB wall has higher loading capability and better seismic behavior than normal clay wall. So CSB wall can be practically used in large-span masonry building, and span is as large as six meters determined by column spacing. On the basis of test under cyclic load reversals the paper put up restoring mode of large-span masonry building by SCB wall and edit program for seismic dynamic elastic-plastic analysis. Through a analytic example, it is proven that six-meter span masonry building by SCB wall has good seismic behavior and deforming ability. |
