Bullet marks identification which is applied to investigate the case with gun is one of important means of criminal reconnaissance. The main subject of bullet marks identification is to judge the type of gun and whether the bullet recovered from the crime scene is fired by the suspected gun. In order to solve these two problems, the marks left on the warhead and cartridge case should be tested. Among all the marks, some appear repeatedly and others appear accidentally. The accidental marks are not valuable but the repeated marks are useful to affirm the type of gun, since they reflect the inherent characteristic of gun's parts. Two guns produced by the same tools in turn have many similarities (such as the same rifle characteristics) which are basis to judge the type of the gun. The marks on the warhead and cartridge case fired by the same gun can show the specific feature of the gun's parts. As long as the gun's parts have no change in essence, through the marks on the warhead or cartridge case, the identity of specific gun can be established.developed a set of warhead trace identification system, which has very high automation degree。First this system collect the image of warhead trace step by step, then combined these images to make an image of rounded t warhead trace.Bring forward an Automatic focus algorithm ,which adapt to focus the complex surface.. In the system of identification warhead trace ,this algorithm is used to automatic focus the bullet under the microscope and get a very good result of focus.The system adopts several kinds of image processing means to enhance the image ,improve the quality of image and degree clarity of image; abstract the character of the image by image processing, lay the success foundation for the auto identification of trace by computer in future.System establishes an image database which is applicable to image storage. That data bank registers the trace image and correlation feature message which are collected by system. The system provides the function of storage and query. Moreover the system by means of the internet, the remote use can share the information of the database, let the query in the other place become convenience.the system realizes identity warhead trace by manual assistance.
