Irrigation by muddy water and runoff are involved with infiltration of muddy water. It's unreasonable to use pure water infiltration model for this problem. During infiltration of muddy water two different phenomena: sediment depositting on the medium and being detention in the medium. The study on this problem is concentrated on the effect of sediment and neglect that of detention. Content of fine sediment in porous medium has an important effect on osmosis. Sediment being detention in porous medium changes the content of original porous medium and of the deposition. Therefore study on the detention is helpful to understanding whole infiltration of muddy water.In project when seepage deformation is too large, structure may be destroyed and safety is out of control. Fine sediment is often transported in seepage deformation. To the layer which takes the transported sediment, seepage is the same as infiltration of muddy water. Detention in seepage deformation is like detention in infiltration of muddy water. Therefore study on infiltrating detention of muddy water is helpful to study on seepage deformation. Reversed filter is a good method to prevent seepage failure. Now filter is set by Terzaghi's principle with no sediment being transported. This is complicated to be carried out. Considering the transportion and detention of fine sediment and aiming at the final steady system of reversed filter, we can depress the criterion. Therefore study on sediment detention of muddy water can be used in study of reversed filter mechanism and be referred to by reversed filter setting. When muddy water is still, sediment will easily be deposited on the sand column to be a new layer for infiltration which is disadvantage to sediment entrance. This article designed a device of infiltration with flowing muddy water. Flowing muddy water can minish sediment deposit obviously and provide a quite steady water head and sediment concentration.This article studied the influential factors and concluded to use water head as an initial condition parameter for muddy water infiltration. Gradation of sand column and sediment concentration of muddy water and water head are remarkably effective factors for the fine grain distribution in sand column. Due to numerical fit and physical trend three detention distribution mode are contrasted and w=aarctan(bl) is selected as detention distribution function. With a view of water head the function can be determined in detail.This article launches on the model of detention during muddy water infiltrating. Contrasting the types of sediment's transportation and analyzing the anti-seepage mechanism of fine sediment, the content of fine sediment is regarded as an important factor of anti-seepage. The viewpoint provides a way to study on the interaction of water and soil and the model of detention during muddy water infiltrating.
